Recently diagnosed (Parts 2 and 3): Find the Tools That Work for You… and Don’t Settle

This 50-minute session will include a brief presentation on the available support for people with PD including counseling, support groups, and caregivers, medical and nonmedical therapies, exercise, safety issues, and difficulties with speech. Also included will be a brief presentation on the treatment of PD with commonly used medications, including levodopa, dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, COMT inhibitors, anticholinergics, and amantadine. After the presentation, there will be open time for discussion.

Gordon Woods is from Las Cruces, NM and studied chemistry (BS 1974), microbiology, medicine (MD 1980), and internal medicine (board-certified 1984). He joined the faculty of UC, Davis (1989), U.IL (1996), U.AZ (2004), and the TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in TX (2009). Dr. Woods has been managing his own PD diagnosis since 2011 and retired to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2021. He enjoys music, traveling, writing, and, of course, boxing.
